Should You Choose Inkjet or Laserjet Printers

How do you decide weather your needs require a laser printer or an inkjet printer? This is a very good question and although there are quite a few similarities there are also many differences.
Both laser printers and inkjet printers contain a system board to control the printing process. However, an inkjet printer does not rely nearly as much on memory as does a laser printer. A laser printer needs an entire page to be completely stored in the memory before it can begin the printing process. If there is memory available in an inkjet printer, it is mostly there just to save time. Inkjet printers do not require an entire page to be stored before it can start printing so it is ultimately quicker in this aspect.
The primary difference between how an inkjet printer and a laser printer work is the inkjet printer's print head. These nozzles are thinner than human hair. These nozzles squirt very small dots very close together on the paper, producing very sharp images. These small dots allow for great color reproduction. In an inkjet printer there are typically two cartridges: a black and a color ink cartridge. There are really only 4 different inks all together but, put together in the right combination, they can reproduce any color. Therefore this causes the inkjet cartridges to cost much less than laser toner cartridges.
There are, however, advantages to a laser printer as well. Though the cost of a toner cartridge is about twice as much, it can produce a much sharper image and may in fact save you money, depending on your needs. If you are someone who prints out large amounts of documents, the laser printer may be the way for you to go. The costs run something like this: a typical toner cartridge will cost you somewhere in between $50-$60 but will print 2,000 to 3,000 pages, really costing you only 2 - 2 1/2 cents per page. A typical inkjet cartridge will cost you $20-$30 but will only print 400 to 500 pages costing you about 4-6 cents per page.
Most companies offer both inkjet printers as well as laser printers. Hewlett-Packard is one of these companies that does offer both. A color inkjet printer for business has prices that range from $39.99 to $1,295.00 and for home the price ranges from $393.99 to about $1,399.99. The cost of a color laser jet printer for business can range from $299.99 to 5,999.99 and for home ranges from about $299.99 to $699.99.
Keeping in mind the cost of the printer and the cartridges and the use for which you will have for it, you will be able to choose for yourself weather an inkjet printer or a laser printer is best for you.
